Challenge
In the drought-prone region of West Torrens, South Australia, efficient water use for irrigation is crucial. Traditional irrigation systems were wasteful, with efficiency rates as low as 55%, leading to water scarcity and increased costs for farmers.
Solution
Cisgenics introduced its smart irrigation platform, featuring advanced weather data integration, local weather station for precise evapotranspiration (ET) measurements, soil moisture-dependent irrigation triggering and AI-driven predictive watering algorithms. The system was installed on Sherriff Street, West Torrens, in 2024, replacing a competing product used in 2023.
Results
Cisgenics smart irrigation platform dramatically outperforms its competitors in water efficiency. It achieves 90% efficiency using Bureau of Meteorology data and 98% with its own CisgenX local weather station, compared to the 55% efficiency of the previous year’s competing system. During a February-March 2024 trial, Cisgenics reduced water consumption by 38% in summer and 56% in spring.
The system’s precision watering approach triggers irrigation based on real-time soil moisture levels, ensuring optimal plant health while conserving water. This innovative technology positions Cisgenics as a sustainable agricultural water management leader, offering a powerful solution to Australia’s water scarcity challenges.
